smashLAB was lucky enough to receive recognition amongst all the competition for New Media BC's PopVox Awards. First of all, Design Can Change was awarded the Best Do-Gooder site, which recognizes social change initiatives. We accepted the award, babbled incoherently for a moment, and quickly left the stage.
A moment later, we were asked to return to accept the "Homegrown Award" for the best BC-based venture. This time, we were happy to see our recent project MakeFive find some additional awareness and accolades.
"The people have spoken and we offer congratulations to all of the winners", said Kenton Low, President, New Media BC. "The competition was tight, the contestants exceeded expectations with their creativity and innovation and we’re proud of the homegrown talent represented in the winner’s circle".
The 2008 PopVox Award winners are:

Now in its second year, the PopVox (from vox populi – L. voice of the people) competition took place over a six-week period, with creators submitting and nominating their own work online throughout April 2008, followed by a public voting period from May 1-12.
All of us at smashLAB appreciate the support that came from all of our friends. Thank you so much for voting for us at PopVox!
